Ford escape hybrid 20118/19/2023 ![]() Had to sand it by hand, reprime and paint. ![]() "After the paint flaked off down to the primer, then the rust would set in. "The hinge that holds the back window cracked and had to be replaced, both of them, very cheap construction, over 150.00 a piece, just for the part." "T%he paint has peeled in the same areas where I am experiencing rust" No other vehicle that I have owned has done this. This is a mature product and there is no excuse for this defect. "Peeling on both rear wheel wells and the tailgate bottom. "The paint on the hood and above the windshield is cracking and peeling. We sent it to the dealership for repair which took them a full week instead of the three days they estimated" "WE had a couple of small areas on the truck that were beginning to bubble up and crack. Once I finish paying for this crap car I will NEVER buy another Ford" Brakes wore out and Michelin tires wore out before 34000miles. "Paint is peeling above wheel on drivers side back. it only covered the wheel wells and not all the stone chips, door dings etc will never purchase the coating again" When vehicle was purchased paid $1000.00 for the clear coat which was supposed to guarantee no paint chips etc. Also severe rusting on the same locations" "Paint peeled off around bottom of rear passenger doors and rear hatch door. I have seen many many Escapes of various colours with this same issue" Continues to peel off such that you can see pristine primer under the paint that is peeling off. Dealer would not do anything, as it was past warranty period. "Paint peeling off after 2.5 year, so past paint warranty. Our 2007 Explorer had had no similar problems, despite being five years older in the same environment" We'd rust-sprayed this vehicle annually (Krown). Repair shop said this was common in all Escapes of this vintage. Paint around rear liftgate window had degraded which led to rust underneath and around gasket. "Paint began peeling from around both real wheel wells leading to surface rust. "Rust and paint bubbling on tail gate and rear quarter panels" "paint is chipping off & rust is forming around the tailgate" Mechanical failures are to be expected as it is driven but assembly faults leading to rust are not. There used to be a comment about the Rusty Ford Syndrome from the 70s. Really disappointing that Ford has not conquered premature rust after all these years. ![]() Every issue with my Ford has been documented by others online going back to 2008 models. I have more rust on this 2011 than I have on my 2005 Toyota which has basically none. As a mature model line I expected these issues to have been eliminated in manufacture. ![]() Paint peeling from rear wheel wells and rust in tailgate within first two years. paint but disappointed that dealer unwilling to correct problem other than charge me like $1200.00 to repair flaking paint." Other than those two areas no other concerns re. Paint has peeled off the rear door bottom edge. "Just after 2 year paint warranty had expired, the rear wheel well edges started peeling, and then rusting. We are looking at the 2018 Escape to replace this one and will purchase this vehicle again without hesitation.Paint (fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling) We live in upper Michigan, and we purchase the 4-wheel drive version of the Escape and have no problems handling the cold and snow that we get 5 months of the year. Sirius satellite radio is also a nice feature to have in the rural areas of the country. We love the sound system as well as the navigation system that can be updated yearly if desired. The back seat may be a little tight if you are taller, but since we never use it, this is not a problem. There is plenty of legroom up front and plenty of storage in the back. We have taken 3 cross-country trips in all terrain and weather and no problems. We have over 150,000 miles on the vehicle and have less then $3,000 total on maintenance in 6 years including tires. Maintenance cost have been substantially less then expected. The mileage has been excellent up to 30 mpg average in the warm months and 27 mpg in the colder months.
